PAIN MANAGEMENT

When you have to navigate life feeling significant pain and discomfort, it can be draining and drag you down. Luckily, SCR&PT is here to help. Our multidisciplinary team is experienced in pain management and can provide you with the treatment you need to manage your acute, subacute, and chronic pain and restore your quality of life.

What Is Pain?

It’s not unusual to experience occasional aches and pains. Pain is a critical reaction of the nervous system that can help alert you to possible injury. When you’ve been injured, pain signals travel from the afflicted area up to your spinal cord and your brain. Pain can be an unpleasant emotional and physical experience unique to each individual and is associated with potential or actual tissue damage. There are three main types of pain: acute, subacute, and chronic pain. These types of pain are typically classified according to their physiological healing time frames and their duration.

Acute Pain - This type of pain refers to any sharp, specific pain of rapid onset or discomfort stemming from a particular incident, such as an injury. Acute pain occurs suddenly and tends to be very isolated. Acute pain usually only lasts a short period.

Subacute Pain - Subacute pain can be defined as pain that persists after efforts have been made to relieve pain and continue for more than six weeks following the initial onset of pain. Subacute pain can be the result of an underlying condition, injury, surgical treatment, or inflammation.

Chronic Pain - Chronic pain, however, is different from normal pain. Chronic pain is characterized as persistent pain that can last anywhere from weeks to years. In the case of chronic pain, your body sends pain signals to your brain, even after your injury has healed.

There are some cases where people experience pain without any prior injury. While it is normal for the human body to experience pain sometimes, you should not let persistent pain go unchecked. When you find yourself dealing with pain, you should not hesitate to contact our team.
